Three Rescued From Ship Taking On Water In New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it rescued three crew members aboard a towing vessel taking on water and reportedly grounded in Lake Pontchartrain (PON'-chuh-train).
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans' command center received a report Tuesday that the UTV Todd Michael was grounded on rocks near the Lakefront Airport with three people aboard. The agency says it launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, which hoisted two people from the ship, and a response boat crew, which removed one person on a barge attached to the towing vessel.
All three men were transported to hospitals. The Coast Guard did not provide details of injuries, and crew members' conditions were not immediately known.
