Tony Stewart his hit some bumps in the road in recent years. Injuries, and an incident at an upstate New York dirt track have cost the three time Sprint Cup Champion significant time over the pas few years. Stewart has been hospitalized with a back injury, according to a report from nascar.com. He was reportedly in an ATV accident Saturday afternoon somewhere on the west coast.

Nascar Chairman Brian France issued this statement: "We have received word from Stewart-Haas Racing of Tony Stewart's accident and injury. On behalf of everyone at NASCAR, I wish Tony a full recovery and look forward to seeing him back in our sport when he's ready to return."

With the Daytona 500 just days away, it's unclear if Stewart will be sufficiently recovered to participate. He has announced 2016 will be his final season as a full time driver.
