Tomorrow is Election Day in Louisiana and the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler predicts about a 15% turnout statewide. He expects turnout in Orleans Parish to be a little higher, as New Orleans has a big mayoral election.

“I’m going to take a stab in Orleans itself, somewhere in a 25% to 30% range. We’ll probably have about 90,000 to 95,000 total voters.”

13 parishes in the state only have the treasurer’s race and three constitutional amendments on the ballot. Schedler says bring a friend to the booth with you on Saturday to cast your vote. He says voters in New Hampshire throw parties during early voting so maybe Louisiana should try something similar.

“We always like to party here in south Louisiana and in Louisiana itself, so maybe that’s the trick to getting more people to participate. Go watch a ball game, invite folks over and go vote after of before that game.”

The Public Service Commissioner election is big one in many south Louisiana parishes.

Schedler urges everyone to visit geauxvote.com to see a sample ballot and get poll information. He says he’s prepared to eat crow if Louisiana voters turnout at over 15%.

“I guess I will, unless it’s something they tell me will kill me. If we can exceed it by a dramatic portion, maybe that’s something we could do as maybe a motivation for people to make me eat crow on the next cycle.”
