In this edition of "Not Necessarily The News," Tootie visits a house filled with heroes.

"Hey! I’m Tootie Landry and this is what I found out today! We pass in front of their “houses” all the time. Rarely would we stop and we certainly don’t want these guys coming over. Their red trucks are usually parked in the driveway; you know who I’m talking about? The hot guys, the ones that make house calls! Lafayette’s Firemen!!!

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Coby, Matt, Clarence, Duane, and Douglas of Fire Station #4 on Alexander Street in Lafayette. This group of men made an impact on me that I’ll never forget. From the camaraderie to the professionalism, these “water boys” were top notch and tough. There is no denying the brotherhood of firemen.

Their gear weighs 60 pounds! That’s more than Lady GaGa’s outfits! These guys climb ladders and they have names like Captain, Pumpers, and Drivers. 98 percent of firemen in Lafayette have two jobs. They make medical calls, use chainsaws, clean oil spills, and rescue people! And they do it all with a smile!

So maybe the next time you see their red trucks flying through a red light, say a prayer for these unspoken heroes!

And finally, in case you were wondering, they still get calls to get cats out of trees!! And I’m Tootie Landry and this is “Not Necessarily the News!”
