Major Eddie Thibodeaux with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says Nicole R. Duff, a traffic clerk in Port Barre, has been arrested after nearly $20,000 worth of bond money she collected turned up unaccounted for.

One of Duff's duties was to retrieve bond money from the Port Barre Police Department daily. Bank records and signed spreadsheets indicate Duff only deposited $4,332.00 of $24,079.00 from October 7th of 2015 to May 2nd of 2016. Reportedly Duff failed to follow the proper procedures and internal controls that are in place to retrieving and depositing the money from fines and related arrests.

Duff faces 32 counts of felony theft, malfeasance in office and 2 counts of injuring public records. Her bond is $31,000.
