State transportation officials are trying to cut down on accidents on one stretch of highway.

Yesterday morning, all lanes of I-12 near Baton Rouge were closed for hours after an 18-wheeler crashed. The semi lost control on a curve and flipped over construction barricades into eastbound traffic.

The area between Baton Rouge and Denham Springs is under construction till at least mid-April, forcing drivers to shift lanes. New safety measures include message board warnings, rumble strips and increased police presence to encourge drivers to slow down.
