ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — A Tioga man accused of killing his wife and then trying to run over two deputies is set to stand trial.

The Town Talk reports Joseph Anton Chehardy Jr. is charged with second-degree murder of his wife, Janeva Lasyone, who was shot twice, once in the head, at the couple's home on May 19, 2010.

Chehardy also is on trial on two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Sheriff's officials said Chehardy had the couple's 2-year-old son in the truck he was driving trying to get away from deputies, who fired on Chehardy not knowing there was a child was in the vehicle.

One of the deputy's bullets pierced the door of the truck and struck Chehardy in the leg.
