A state trooper has been arrested on a rape charge following a joint investigation by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police.

State police superintendent, Col. Mike Edmonson, says 47-year-old Romaus J. Almond, of Ruston, was booked Tuesday into the parish detention center on one count of simple rape. Edmonson says Almond has spent most of the past year on sick leave as a result of non-work related circumstances.

Authorities say the alleged assault occurred Sept. 10 while Almond was off duty and on leave. State police says the complainant accuses Almond of sexually assaulting her as she spent the night at his home following a party there.
