Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on US Highway 190 east of Louisiana Highway 752 last night that took the life of a 7-year-old Church Point girl. Kendessa Castile died at the scene.

Around 7:18 last night, troopers say a 2011 Ford truck driven by 67-year-old Vincent Fruge of Eunice was traveling west on US Highway 190.  Right behind him was 22-year-old Ryan Godeaux of Eunice driving a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe.  Both drivers hit seven-year-old Castile as she was trying to cross the road.

Castile was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Parish Coroner.  Troopers say neither Fruge nor Godeaux were injured in the crash.  Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers want to remind pedestrians that you should not cross a roadway unless it is at a crosswalk or intersection.  Pedestrians should look both ways before crossing the street and only do so when it is safe. Troopers also suggests that pedestrians wear light colored or reflective clothing if they are planning to walk at night.
