DEQUINCY – Earlier this month, investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation Insurance Fraud Unit received information that a stolen off-road vehicle was being stored at a residence in DeQuincy, Louisiana. Troopers with the Lafayette and Lake Charles field offices initiated an investigation.  Troopers went to the residence of 36-year-old William Kellogg of DeQuincy and conducted a consensual search of the property.  While there, they located a Kawasaki off-road vehicle that they determined to be the same vehicle Kellogg reported stolen to the DeQuincy Police Department earlier this year.  An investigation concluded that Kellogg falsely reported his off-road vehicle stolen to the police department and to his insurance company, resulting in Kellogg being compensated approximately $4,900.00 that he was not entitled to. Today, Kellogg surrendered to troopers at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.  He was booked on the charges of insurance fraud (LRS 22:1924) and theft over $500.00 (LRS 14:67).  Kellogg could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of both charges. Anyone with information concerning insurance fraud is encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit in Lafayette at 337-262-3341.
