The National Hurricane Center forecasters have upgraded and area of disturbed weather in the Bay of Campeche to Tropical Depression status. Tropical Depression Nine was classified as such last night about 10pm.  Forecasters believe the system has a better than average chance to become Tropical Storm Hanna by later today.

The current computer forecast models suggest that TD Nine will not be a player in Acadiana's weather. At least it shouldn't be a player in Acadiana's weather anytime soon. The forecast track for the system will carry it across the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Western Caribbean Sea.

Depending on conditions in the Caribbean and how strong the system remains after crossing the Yucatan will determine if the storm system will regain some punch over the warm tropical waters. This will have to be a 'wait and see' issue since there are so many variables involved in the long range forecast.
