House speaker Jim Tucker has announced his candidacy for Secretary of State at the Baton Rouge Press Club meeting today. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Tucker's position and popularity would push him into the front runners position. Among people also running are New Orleans representative Walker Hines, Caroline Fayard, a candidate from last year's Lt. Governor race, and current Secretary Tom Schedler,  a  republican who was appointed to the office when Jay Dardenne became Lt.  Governor last year. The office oversees elections and over a dozen state museums.
