It appears that legislation that would increase tuition costs for students is dead for the session. One bill to increase fees was overwhelmingly rejected and another bill that would have raised tuition has been tabled. Council for a Better Louisiana Pres. Barry Erwin says discord between legislators and the governor derailed the legislation.

A bill to increase higher education fees was rejected after Alexandria Rep. Chris Roy criticized Governor Jindal for supporting the measure while opposing a cigarette tax renewal. Erwin says higher ed leaders supported the fee and tuition increases. Erwin says so far during this session cuts to higher ed have not been made, but he believes they are coming.
