KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — At least 12 people are now confirmed dead in an avalanche on Mt. Everest.

The dead are all Sherpa guides who had set out early this morning to fix ropes for other climbers. Rescue workers pulled their bodies under mounds of snow and ice, and now they're searching for three other missing guides.

Two others have been injured in what officials are calling the worst disaster to hit climbers on the mountain.
