Twenty-One Sex Offenders Arrested in Calcasieu Parish

Earlier this summer, detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations examined the online Internet activities of registered sex offenders in Calcasieu Parish.  Troopers coordinated their investigative efforts with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Louisiana Probation and Parole, Lake Charles City Police, and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office in a joint investigation.

The investigation, named “Operation Off Limits,” revealed that numerous sex offenders were utilizing a social networking site in violation of Louisiana state law.  State law prohibits registered sex offenders convicted of certain enumerated crimes involving minors from accessing a social networking website.  As a result of the investigation, arrest and search warrants were obtained by detectives.

On September 3, 2014, warrants were served by agencies involved in the investigation.  The individuals listed below were charged with unlawful use of social media (LRS 14:95.1) by the Louisiana State Police.  In addition, these individuals were charged with failure to provide sex offender status notification on their social media page by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (LRS 15:542.1D).  They were booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.  Bond was set at $17,500.

The following individual was charged with failure to provide sex offender status notification on her social media page by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (LRS 15:542.1D) and was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.  Bond was set at $7,500.

Investigators will continue to target registered sex offenders who choose to ignore laws that are designed to protect others.  The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are possible.
