Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated two fatal crashes in Acadiana Sunday.

The first fatal crash happened on Louisiana Highway 104 near Highway 103 in Evangeline Parish.

Troopers say 19-year-old Demetrius Bergeron of Ville Platte drove off of the right side of the highway just before five o'clock in the evening.

Trooper Brooks David says they are still investigating why Bergeron's truck went off of the roadway.  Bergeron started to overcorrect, but then the truck started spinning around, and it finally overturned.

Bergeron was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.  No one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt, and the two passengers had minor injuries.

David says troopers suspect impairment was a factor in the truck crash and toxicology tests were taken for analysis.

The second fatal crash happened around 11:45 Sunday night on Highway 182 north of US Highway 90 in St. Mary Parish.

David says 52-year-old Jimmy Barras' vehicle went off the road onto the shoulder of the road, and the truck hit a tree.

Barras injuries, even though he was buckled up, proved to be fatal.

As part of the crash investigation, troopers have blood samples that will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
