Update: Lawrence Davis and Marlene Weston's deaths have been ruled a double suicide by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office.

According to our news partners at KATC, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says his office still cannot definitely say that this was indeed a double suicide.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Lawrence Davis and Marlene Weston died from gunshot wounds from a small caliber pistol earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Guidroz says they got a call from a concerned family member who told them she had not spoken to her brother and his friend in a couple of days and was concerned about their well-being. That's when deputies went to the home in Leonville, where they found the couple's bodies.

Sheriff Guidroz says they found the gun in the bed with the two victims. Because of their deceased condition, though, investigators were not able to immediately determine their cause of death.

Deputies are still investigating, interviewing neighbors and family members that may have spoken to the victims prior to their death. Additionally, Sheriff Guidroz says they are waiting on results from evidence that was sent off to the Acadiana Crime Lab to possibly answer many questions that still remain. Guidroz says:

At this point in the investigation only two people know what happened in that bedroom that night and unfortunately they are both deceased.  We are hoping the Acadiana Crime Lab Technicians’ examination of evidence submitted will shine some light into who is responsible for the deaths of this couple.
