Two Drivers Out Of 976 Arrested For OWI During Lafayette Checkpoint

The Lafayette Police Department conducted on OWI checkpoint that started Friday night at nine o'clock and went through Saturday morning at 3 o'clock.

The checkpoint was held in the 4400 block of Johnston Street.  Two people were arrested:

• Michael T. Simon, 39, charged with OWI
• Trevor J. Darby, 19, charged with OWI

Police say the purpose of the checkpoint was to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substances.

Police say 976 vehicles went through the checkpoint, and of those vehicles, 12 drivers were stopped for secondary testing.  Only two drivers were arrested and charged with OWI.

In addition to those two arrests, 18-year-old Shawn St. Julien was arrested for possession of Marijuana, and officers issued 8 citations for various violations.
