Two people have been arrested after a home invasion that happened in Acadia Parish Thursday afternoon.

Both were arrested on charges of home invasion and attempted second degree murder.

When responding to the call in the 5000 block of the Eunice Iota Highway, police tried to stop the suspect's truck.  They would not stop, and police began to chase them further down the Eunice Iota Highway until they were stopped at one of the suspect's homes.

The two ran out of the truck into a wooded area.  One man was caught right away, while it took police about six hours to catch the other man.

Sheriff Wayne Melancon says they arrested 37-year-old Billy West and 26-year-old James Rozas.

Detectives alleged the two men forced their way into the home in the 5000 block of the Eunice Iota Highway and Rozas assault the woman who was later able to free herself and run to a neighbor's home for help.

Police say Rozas then started fighting with a man in the home, and soon after police say West came in and started beating up the man as well.  While the man is in the hospital, his injuries are considered to be non-life threatening.

Melancon says West and Rozas are in the Acadia Parish Jail.  They have been charged with:

  • Home invasion
  • Criminal damage to property
  • Attempted 2nd degree murder
