NEW IBERIA, La. (KPEL) -- Two people were arrested at a Thibodaux hotel on allegations that they stole a purse outside the home of a New Iberia woman.

According to Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal, deputies were called out to a home on Carl Meche Road. The victim told deputies that she had left her purse outside her house for a few minutes, but when she came back, the purse was gone.

"Acting on information received, detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were able to track down the two suspects involved in the theft to a hotel in [Thibodaux, La.]," Ackal said.

Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Pearce and 20-year-old Ryan Prince were arrested at the hotel and transported to the Lafourche Parish Jail and then released into the custody of the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, Ackal said.

Pearce was charged with theft over $500. Prince was charged with accessory and theft over $500.
