LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Two New Iberia men have been arrested and booked on charges of armed robbery following an early Sunday morning incident near downtown Lafayette.

Cpl. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department said the victims were sitting in their car on East Main Street when they were approached by five men, two of whom were holding handguns.

The two were ordered to hand over their wallets and their cell phones, Mouton said. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

"Officers on Jefferson Street were notified by the victims of the robbery, and one of the suspects was arrested," Mouton said.

The second suspect was found near the intersection of Jefferson and Cypress Streets, Mouton said.

Twenty-year-old Laquinton Dejean and 20-year-old Cliff Ledet, III were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, Mouton said.
