Carl Thomas of Opelousas is in stable condition after he was shot around 1:00 a.m. Saturday, allegedly by Nakia Romar Jr. and Montell Austin, also both of Opelousas.

Opelousas Police Sergeant Jody White says Thomas was approached in the 500 block of E Jefferson Street by Romar and Austin, who allegedly asked him to sell them drugs. When Thomas told them he had none, Romar then asked him for change. But as Thomas was getting ready to give them the change, Austin allegedly shot Thomas once in the shoulder.

Both Austin and Romar are in custody charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. Romar was just released in January of 2014 on a weapons charge and resisting an officer by flight.
