Update: Lafayette Fire officials say evidence at the scene indicate someone poured or splashed an accelerant on the exterior wall then set the fire, possibly as some sort of retaliation. If you have any information, call the Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716 or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

Lafayette firefighters were called out to house fire at 610 Delord Street this morning.

The single family home was engulfed in flames, and flames could be seen coming from the front of the home along with the side of the house.

Both occupants, Michael Pegues and Kealii Lindon were awakened by smoke and the sound of popping noises.

They both encountered flames when they left their bedrooms, but they were able to get out of the house through the front door.

Firefighters say while they were safe, there were two dogs that died in the fire.

Investigators says the fire started in the kitchen.  The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
