PINEVILLE, La. (AP) — City employees will receive a two percent raise if the Pineville City Council approves the budget proposed by Mayor Clarence Fields' administration.

The Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/LqLOVQ ) the proposed budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, which begins July 1, was made public Tuesday at a Finance Committee meeting. Fields said he was optimistic that the city council would approve the budget.

The city has 280 employees spread over 17 departments. The raise, which does not include elected officials, would be the first in two years for employees.

The proposed 2012-2013 fiscal year budget calls for an increase of $348,000. The proposed budget is set at $14.2 million, up from $13.9 million this fiscal year.

Fields said city employees have done a good job of cutting city expenses.
