Two Port Allen Men Indicted In Truck Driver’s Death

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Two Port Allen men have been indicted in the August shooting death of a Denham Springs man during a robbery at a downtown Baton Rouge gas station.

On Thursday, an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged 22-year-old Phillip Carter and a 17-year-old with second-degree murder and armed robbery in the slaying of 43-year-old Bobby Nelson.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/WNEQkg ) Nelson was shot Aug. 7 and died Aug. 9.

Police say the suspects approached Nelson, a tractor-trailer driver, as he was unloading fuel into the underground tanks at a Chevron service station. Police say the men robbed Nelson of his wallet and then shot him twice in the leg before running away.

Police found Nelson on the ground next to his tractor-trailer.
