Two Ragin’ Cajuns Football Players Accused Of Sexual Battery

20-year-old Darrell Green and 22-year-old Eric Ferguson have been arrested are each charged with one count of sexual battery on a female student.

University Police Sgt. Billy Abrams says initially officers responded to a report of simple rape:

After consuming some alcohol, the victim left with a female friend and four male individuals to go to the store. While they were inside the vehicle, the victim stated that she was fondled and touched on different parts of her body.

Abrams says after questioning the victim, officers determined they were dealing with a sexual battery case. He says the victim told investigators the incident took place during a gathering at a residence hall on campus where she lives.  Abrams says the woman stated she did not consent to the touching. She was transported to Lafayette General Medical Center.

Abrams says Green and Ferguson have been transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The two players have also been released from the Ragin' Cajuns football team for a violation of team rules. Head Football Coach Mark Hudspeth released the following statement:

I expect the young men who represent the university as members of the Ragin' Cajuns football team to always conduct themselves in a appropriate manner. If they cannot follow the core values that we expect them to live by, then they can no longer be part of this program. The decisions that Darrell and Eric have made unfortunately make it necessary for me to remove them from the team.

Abrams says the case remains under investigation.
