The May 3 general election is this Saturday.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler says 35 parishes are holding elections on May 3rd. One parish that has items on the ballot this weekend is Acadia Parish.

There will be a parishwide library tax renewal on the ballot this Saturday.

The 4.25 mills tax would be on all property in the next ten years:

  • Shall the Parish of Acadia, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), continue to levy a four and twenty-five hundredths (4.25) mills tax on all the property subject to taxation (an estimated $1,618,000 expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) within the Parish for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2015 and ending with the year 2024, for the purpose of improving, maintaining and operating public libraries for the Parish? Library Proposition, (Tax Renewal)

Also on the ballot this Saturday is a parishwide tax renewal for the Senior Citizen Program.

The tax is 1.5 mills for ten years:

  • Senior Citizen Programs Proposition, (Tax Renewal), Shall the Parish of Acadia, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), continue to levy a one and one-half (1-1/2) mills tax on all the property subject to taxation (an estimated $580,000 expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) in the Parish for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2015 and ending with the year 2024, for the purpose of providing funds for services to the elderly, including the establishment and maintenance of centers for senior citizens?

The final issue of the ballot is a tax rededication for the city of Eunice, a 1% sales and use tax, City of Eunice Proposition:

  • (1% Sales Tax Rededication) Shall the City of Eunice, State of Louisiana (the "City"), be authorized to rededicate the proceeds received or to be received from the levy and collection of a one percent (1%) sales and use tax (the "Tax") previously authorized at elections held on May 22, 1962 and February 28, 1967 (the "Elections") (an estimated $2,000,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), so that in addition to the purposes previously approved at the Elections, not more than 10% of such proceeds may be used in each fiscal year for general municipal purposes in the event that unbudgeted emergency expenses are incurred by the City of Eunice in that year?
