We pet owners love our furry family members, and there are two great ways Lafayette Parish is helping us to protect them.

The law says that all animals must be vaccinated against rabies if they are over four months old. Lafayette Animal Control is partnering with local veterinarians for rabies clinics this Saturday, April 30, and next Saturday, May 7, at several locations across the parish. The vaccinations will be available for $7 per animal for dogs and cats from 1:30pm until 2:30pm each day. They are encouraging folks to get there early, and there is a form to fill out. The clinics will be held at the following locations:
  • L. Leo Judice Elementary
  • Milton Elementary
  • Alice Boucher Elementary
  • Northside High School
  • Youngsville Middle
  • Judice Middle
  • Duson City Hall
  • Comeaux High School

The second way you can help protect your four-legged friend is by purchasing a metal tag with your contact information on it. It attaches to the collar and is available for $2. A registered microchip is the best identification for your pet if it gets lost, but a tag is a low-cost way to have he or she quickly identified. The tags are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors at Lafayette Animal Control. It only takes a few minutes for the ladies in the office to engrave the information while you wait. Lafayette Animal Control is located on Pont de Mouton Road between I-49 and University.
