U-L Lafayette Is Now Saying, “No” To Remedial Classes

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is now not not going to enroll students who require remedial classes to get them up to par.  When the fall semester gets started, incoming freshmen who need remedial courses are going to have to attend another school first to catch up before being allowed to attend UL.

Carolyn Bruder, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, tells our news partner KATC that this change will mean fewer students and that means less tuition money coming in initially. Bruder says that UL officials are figuring that they will see anywhere between 600 and 800 fewer students enrolling in classes this fall.

The plan to end remedial classes has been discussed for several years, and the university says that changing this policy will be a move to raise admission standards at U-L Lafayette.
