U.S. Senator David Vitter Seeking To Disqualify Violent Criminals From Federal Housing Assistance (Video)

The U.S. Senate will vote this week on an amendment put forth by Sen. David Vitter that seeks to disqualify violent criminals from Federal Housing Assistance. This legislation was added to the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill.

“It’s reasonable to say that if you’re a violent criminal, federal taxpayers should not have to pay for your housing,” Vitter said. “This amendment will also protect those innocent folks who need federal housing assistance from these violent criminals, rather than congregating criminals together with the innocent folks who deserve better.”

To be clear, Vitter gives four "big categories" of violent crimes that his amendment addresses: aggravated sexual abuse, murder, sexual exploitation of children and violence against women.
