The Fifth Annual Race Against the Clock starts tomorrow at 7:00am and United Blood Services' Jason Conner explained the event today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie'.  Each year at the height of summer vacations and after the Fourth of July holiday Acadiana faces a severe blood shortage which United Blood Services attempts to overcome with an "all out" 24 hour blood drive.

Jason Conner, spokesman for the UBS (United Blood Services) said they are hoping to meet their goal of 800 donations in a 24 hour period.  Conner said,

"This year's drive will be held from 7:00AM Thursday July 12th through 7:00AM Friday July 13th with premiums for all donors while supplies last.  In addition we have hundreds of dollars in prizes that were donated by local businesses.  These prizes are time-specific to be given away to donors who participate during specified hours."

According to Conner each pint of blood donated can save up to three lives with products extracted from the donation.  He urged everyone to donate because they might be saving the life of someone they know.
