UCLA Takes Care of Bulldogs in Game One, 3-1

One.  One.  One.

One.

The formula has worked perfectly for UCLA thus far in the College World Series.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Bruins pitching staff gave up just one run and UCLA is one win away from college baseball's national championship.

The Bruins defeated Mississippi State 3-1 Monday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha to take a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the first game of their best of three series for the NCAA Men's Baseball Title series.

Eric Filia had a two run single and made a solid play in the outfield to thwart an MSU threat as the Bruins used their familiar formula of pitching, defense and timely hitting to get the win.

UCLA got the big runs in the fourth inning, when, with one out, Brenton Allen singled. Brian Carroll then sacrificed, but reached on a throwing error by MSU catcher Nick Ammirati.

And, as they've done throughout, UCLA took advantage.

Carroll then stole second with two out, and Fiila delivered a two run single to give the Bruins all the scoring they would need.

Mississippi State scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded walk, but that's all the Bulldogs could muster against four UCLA pitchers.  David Berg got his NCAA record 24th save to nail down the win.
