The University Hospital and Clinics diabetes education team marked World Diabetes Day 2018 with an awareness event. It happened today at 10 AM at the hospital campus on West Congress Street in Lafayette. Healthy snacks were handed out as well as free blood sugar monitors and personal care products.

The event was held in conjunction with the hospital's registered dieticians. Information on diagnosis, treatment, and diabetes prevention measures were given out to patients and hospital employees.

Diabetes Education Program Coordinator Sarah Kirkpatrick said, "Our annual event at UHC is all about raising awareness about diabetes risk factors in our community. And the patient outreach aspect of the event will hopefully help patients make impactful lifestyle changes to prevent a diabetes diagnosis."
