The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is one of the“smartest” public universities in the state.

It was one of three in Louisiana to make the “501 Smartest Colleges in America” list compiled by U.S. News and World Report which is based on average SAT scores. The other two were LSU and Louisiana Tech.

Nationwide, the California Institute of Technology topped the list, followed by Princeton, Harvard and Yale, which tied at second.

U.S. News and World Report also listed UL Lafayette as one of the best four public Louisiana universities among the top 281 national colleges in its 2014 publication. That list serves as an annual guidebook for prospective college students
