UL Lafayette Professor Sues Department In Federal Court

A U-L Lafayette professor is suing the university in federal court, claiming discrimination against him.

Professor John Oller says his civil rights are being violated by the university's Communicative Disorders department because of his beliefs in Creationism and intelligent design.

Oller says he's been asked to leave by members of the department, his textbook has been banned, and he's not being allowed to take part in policy committees.

Court documents show Oller has filed suit against department head Dr. Nancye Roussel, Dr. Martin Ball, and Dr. David Barry, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

The university is closed until January 2, and school officials were unable to be reached.
