U-L Lafayette's Quiz Bowl team are state champions, and now the honor students are preparing for their regional competition that will be held this Saturday at U-L.

Quiz Bowl contests include teams of four students who answer general knowledge questions during time rounds, and this is the third year in a row, that U-L's team has been the best in Louisiana.

This year's U-L team includes the following students:

  • Tyler Quebedeaux, a junior majoring in political science
  • Thomas Credeur, a senior majoring in mathematics
  • Zach Comeaux, a senior majoring in chemical engineering
  • Dominic Lloyd, a freshman majoring in finance

Dr. Julia Frederick, director of the UL Lafayette Honors Program, says the team members have a strong work ethic.

She says,

"They practice hard every week. They read, test each other, explore things they don't know well and study questions from past meets."

Eight other UL Lafayette students participate in Quiz Bowl activities.

Four compete as a team:

  • Kristopher Meche, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering
  • Aurore Hamilton, a junior majoring in political science
  • Henry Robillard, a sophomore majoring in psychology
  • Joshua Lovera, a sophomore majoring in biology

Four others play for recreation at team meetings:

  • Khang Mai, a senior majoring in chemical engineering
  • Jorge Belgodere, a senior majoring in chemical engineering
  • James Mallory, a junior majoring in computer engineering
  • William Benezech, a freshman majoring in physics.

At tomorrow's competition U-L Lafayette with host the regionals that will feature:

  • Louisiana Technical University
  • Rice University
  • Tulane University
  • Texas A&M University
