The 13th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team returns to Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday afternoon, playing host to the ULM Warhawks in a doubleheader, representing the first two games of a three-game, weekend, league series at Lamson Park.

The series marks the conclusion of the 2014 regular season for both teams.

Louisiana, who swept a conference series from UT-Arlington last weekend, winning by scores of 7-0, 13-0, and 8-0, has won 30 out of their last 32 games, and is currently 38-7-1, overall, and 16-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

That league record has clinched the Sun Belt Conference regular season title for the Cajuns, their 11th in the last 13 years, and also secured them the top-seed in the postseason Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

ULM, who dropped two of three games from to Georgia St. in a conference series last week, will come into the series at 22-22, overall, and 6-11 in league play.

That league mark puts the Warhawks in fifth place in the conference standings, one-and-one-half games in front of sixth place Texas St.

Offensively, the Cajuns are currently hitting a .305 as a team, which leads the Sun Belt Conference, along with 70 home runs, which also leads the league, 276 RBI’s, and 36 stolen bases.

Louisiana is led by senior second baseman Natalie Fernandez, who leads the conference in hitting (.456), on-base percentage (.555), and runs scored (55), along with sophomore catcher Lexie Elkins, who leads the conference in both homers (16) and runs batted in (59), and freshman outfielder Hayley Hayden who is second in both homers (13) and RBI’s (49).

Elkins, who is hitting a .379, and Hayden, who is hitting a .323, are also above the .300 mark, along with sophomore designated player Gabby Felps (.324), who has gotten more at-bats as of late.

The Warhawks are hitting a .288 as a team, which ranks second, along with 37 home runs, 198 RBI’s, and 126 stolen bases.

Offensively, ULM is paced by junior second baseman Miyuki Navarrette, who is hitting a .375, along with four homes runs, 18 RBI’s, and 36 stolen bases, and freshman center fielder Rochelle Roberts, who is batting a .349 with one homer, 10 RBI's, and 18 stolen bases.

Pitching-wise, Louisiana brings a an overall team ERA. of 2.87 into the series, which ranks second in the league. Junior right-hander Christina Hamilton is currently 21-1, with a 1.26 ERA., which is good enough for third in the league, while junior right-hander Jordan Wallace is 13-3, with a 4.04 ERA.

The Warhawks bring a combined team ERA. of 4.43 into the series, which ranks last. Senior right-hander Samantha Hamby is 14-13 with a 3.48 ERA, while freshman right-hander Melanie Coyne is 4-2 with a 3.44 ERA.

First-pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 2 o’clock, with a 1 pm single game set for Sunday.
