The 2014 season came to an end for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team on Saturday afternoon, af falling to the Oklahoma Sooners, 3-1, in an elimination game in the 2014 Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The loss concluded a season in which, after an 8-5-1 start, Louisiana went on to win 41 of their last 46 games, while winning the regular season Sun Belt Conference title, as well as the postseason Sun Belt Conference championship.

The Cajuns, who appeared in their third-consecutive Super Regional, including their fourth in the last five years, and fifth in the last seven years, also hosted a Super Regional for the first time in program history, while being named the #6-overall national seed.

UL appeared in the Women's College World Series for the sixth time in program history by winning the Lafayette, La. Regional, defeating the Texas Longhorns on Championship Sunday, and by defeating the Arizona Wildcats in the Super Regional at Lamson Park.

On Saturday, Oklahoma scored two runs in the first inning, when first baseman Lauren Chamberlain reached on an error, and moved to second on a walk by third baseman Shelby Pendley, before designated player Brittany Williams drove both of them home with a one-out double, giving the Sooners a quick 2-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth, when Oklahoma's Callie Parsons hit a sinking liner down the left-field line that short-hopped and got by Louisiana's Shelbi Redfearn, allowing Parsons to circle the bases with an inside-the-park home run, making the score 3-0.

The Cajuns made things interesting in the seventh, when catcher Lexie Elkins smashed a solo home run, cutting the OU lead to 3-1, before third baseman Samantha Walsh singled, bringing the potential tying run to the plate.

It wasn't meant to be however, as Oklahoma held on for the two-run win, ending UL's season.

Natalie Fernandez and Hayley Hayden collected two hits apiece, as Louisiana actually outhit Oklahoma, 6-4, but finished the game leaving 11 on base, compared to only five for the Sooners.

Kelsey Stevens (38-9) recorded the win for Oklahoma, allowing only six hits and one run, while walking three and striking out seven.

Christina Hamilton (29-4) suffered the loss for Louisiana, allowing four hits and two earned runs, while walking two and striking out two.

With the win, the Sooners improved to 51-12 on the season, while the Cajuns' season ended with a record of 49-10-1.
