The 7th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team recorded two victories in the first day of play of the Mardi Gras Classic on Friday, defeating the Idaho State Bengals, 5-1, before blanking the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes, 15-0, at Lamson Park.

The two wins extended Louisiana's season-opening win streak to six games.

In their first game, against Idaho State, the Cajuns scored three runs in the top half of the first inning, courtesy of a three-run home run by Samantha Walsh, and never looked back, en route to the four-run victory.

Lexie Elkins belted two solo homers, while Aleah Craigthon went 3-for-4, as Louisiana out-hit Idaho St., 10-2.

Sophomore right-hander Alex Stewart (3-0) recorded the complete-game win, allowing only one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out eight.

In their second game of the day, against Mississippi St., the Cajuns crushed three home runs, and rode the no-hit pitching performance of senior right-hander Jordan Wallace to cruise to the shutout win.

Haley Hayden, Elkins, and Craighton all homered for UL, while Hayden and D.J. Sanders banged out three hits each, as the Cajuns out-hit the Bengals, 18-0.

Wallace was the story, twirling the complete-game, 7-inning no-hitter, while striking out 16 batters.

Only one base runner reached base, on a one-out error in the fifth inning.

With the two wins, Louisiana improved to 6-0 on the young season.

The Cajuns are scheduled to play twice more on Saturday, taking on Mississippi Valley St. at 2:30, before tangling with Idaho St. at 5 o'clock.

You can catch all the play-by-play action on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com beginning with the pre-game show at 2:15 pm.
