The 10th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team was victorious on Friday afternoon, defeating the Georgia St. Panthers, 10-1, in six inning, mercy-rule fashion, at Lamson Park.

The match-up was the opening game of a three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series.

Louisiana, who outhit Georgia St., 9-2, had three 3-run innings, in the second, fourth, and sixth innings, as they cruised to the victory.

At the plate for the Cajuns, Shelie Landry collected two doubles and two runs batted in, while DJ Sanders went 2-for-3 with three RBI's, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the contest via the mercy rule.

Alex Stewart recorded her seventh win of the year without a defeat, allowing only two hits, three walks, and one run, while striking out eight hitters.

Katie Worley (7-6) suffered the loss for the Panthers, allowing three runs over 2.1 innings pitched.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 28-5, overall, and 13-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Georgia St. fell to 23-13, and 5-5, respectively.

The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon.
