The 7th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team captured a Sun Belt Conference home win on Friday night, defeating the UT-Arlington Mavericks, 18-0, in five-inning mercy rule fashion, in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series at Lamson Park.

The contest, which was the opening game of a nine-game homestand fro Louisiana, was also their conference home opener, while serving as the overall conference opener for UT-Arlington.

Louisiana out-hit UT-Arlington, 16-2, and smashed six homers, a season-high.

Kelsey Vincent went 3-for-3, including three home runs, and four runs batted in, while Lexie Elkins went 4-for-4, including two homers, one a grand slam, a double, and six runs batted in, with Shellie Landry also adding a homer, along with three RBI's

Jordan Wallace (7-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing only one hit in three innings pitched.

Sam Montes (5-7) suffered the loss for UT-Arlington.

With the victory, the Cajuns are now 18-3, overall, and 3-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Mavericks slipped to 14-11, and 0-1, respectively.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 o’clock.
