The 12th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team split a pair of games in the opening day of the 2013 NFCA Leadoff Classic, on Saturday in Clearwater, Florida, falling to Michigan, 3-1, and then defeating South Florida, 3-0.

In the opener, Michigan scored two runs in the second inning on a two-run homer by Ashley Lane, making it 2-0.

Louisiana scored a run in the fifth inning, when a Brianna Cherry ground out brought home Leandra Mally, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Wolverines added an unearned run in the fifth, and then went on to the 3-1 win.

Sara Driesenga (6-1) recorded the victory for Michigan, while Jordan Wallace (6-1) suffered the loss for Louisiana, despite allowing only two hits in five innings of work.

With the win, the Wolverines improved to (7-2), while the Cajuns fell to 8-2.

Against USF, Louisiana scored two runs in the first inning off Bulls' starter Lindsey Richardson, as Sarah Draheim brought home Nerissa Myers with a ground out, and then later scored on a two-out single by Shellie Landry.

The Cajuns later made it 3-0 in the fifth inning, on a solo home run by Cherry.

That was all that starter Christina Hamilton needed.

The sophomore tossed a two-hit shutout, allowing two walks, while striking out two.

With the triumph, Louisiana improved to 9-2, while USF fell to 6-5.

The Cajuns play twice on Saturday, facing Illinois St. at noon (cdt), before squaring off with Hofstra at 2:30 pm.

You can hear both games on Sports Radio ESPN 1420, and espn1420.com, beginning with the pre-game show, at 11:40 am.
