The 7th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team captured a Sun Belt Conference home win on Monday night, defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles, 8-2, in the opening game of a three-game, conference series at Lamson Park.

The contest, which was the fourth game of a nine-game homestand for Louisiana, was also the fourth conference home game for Louisiana, while serving as the first conference road tilt for Georgia Southern.

Louisiana out-hit UT-Arlington, 13-2, and also homered twice, while running their home win streak to 25-consecutive game.

Shellie Landry went 3-for-4, including a home run, and two runs batted in, while Samantha Walsh, Aleah Craighton, and Leandra Maly collected two hits apiece, with Kelsey Vincent adding a homer.

Jordan Wallace (10-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, without allowing a hit in 4.1 innings pitched.

Brooke Red (4-8) suffered the loss for Georgia Southern.

With the victory, the Cajuns are now 21-3, overall, and 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Eagles slipped to 6-17, and 0-4, respectively.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Tuesday with a doubleheader beginning at 4 o’clock.
