The 5th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team recorded two more wins on Friday afternoon, sweeping a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader from the Troy Trojans in Troy, Alabama.

Louisiana won the first game, 11-0, before taking the second game, 8-1.

UL hit 6 combined home runs in the doubleheader, while outscoring Troy, 19-1, and outhitting them, 22-8

The two wins gives the Cajuns 18 victories in their last 19 games.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard quickly in the opener, when senior left-fielder Shellie Landry blasted a solo home run, her 5th of the season, in the top half of the first inning, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

The Cajuns added two more runs in the top half of the second inning, courtesy of RBI singles off the bats of freshman third baseman Kara Gremillion and junior second baseman Hayley Hayden, extending their advantage to 3-0.

The score stayed that way until the top half of the 6th inning, when Louisiana plated three runs, two coming on a 2-run homer off the bat of senior designated hitter Sara Corbello, giving e UL a 6-0 lead.

Louisiana put things completely away in the top half of the 7th inning, adding 5 insurance runs, including two on a 2-run homer by Landry, her second of the game, and two more on a 2-run single by Corbello, her 4th run batted in of the game,

The Cajuns who outhit the Trojans, 11-5, were led at the plate by Landry, who went 2-for-4 with two homers and 3 runs batted in, while Corbello went 2-for-3 with a homer and 4 RBI's, which tied a career-high.

Junior right-hander Alex Stewart (11-0) picked-up the win in the circle for Louisiana, tossing a 5-hit shutout, while issuing only one walk, and recording a season-high 11 strikeouts, which also tied her career-high.

Ashley Rainey (11-7) was saddled with the loss for the Trojans, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in 6.2 innings pitched.

Just as they did in the first game, Louisiana got on the scoreboard in the first inning in the second game, when junior second baseman Hayley Hayden singled, before senior catcher Lexie Elkins crushed a 2-run home run, giving them a quick 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns put up four more run in the top half of the second inning, as Corbello smashed a solo homer, her second of the day, before Landry hit a 2-run shot, her third of the day, to extend their lead to 6-0.

Louisiana added two more runs in the top half of the third inning, one unearned, on one hit, to widen their advantage to 8-0.

Troy scored their first run of the game, and first run of the day in the home half of the fourth inning, when Amanda Winters hit a solo home run, to trim the UL lead to 8-1.

Louisiana, who outhit Troy, 11-3 was led at the plate by Landry, who went 5-for-8 with 3 homers and 6 runs batted in on the day, along with Corbello, and Elkins, who all homered once in the nightcap.

Sophomore right-hander Kylee Jo Trahan (10-2) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing one run on three hits, while walking two and striking out 8.

Peyton Glover (5-1) suffered the loss for the Trojans, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits in 2.1 innings.

With the victories, Louisiana improved to 24-2, overall, and 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Troy dropped to 21-9, and 4-4, respectively.

The two teams complete the three-game series with a single game on Saturday at noon.
