UL senior third baseman Ryan Leonards

 

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun senior third baseman Ryan Leonards was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round, with pick number 618, on the third day of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Saturday.

A native of Crowley, Louisiana, and a product of Notre Dame High School, Leonards is hitting a .323 in 2014, along with four home runs, and 34 runs batted in, with 18 stolen bases to his credit.

A second team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, Leonards has compiled 14 doubles, with four triples, and 61 runs scored, heading into this weekend’s NCAA Super Regional series against the Ole Miss Rebels.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Leonards, who has also started at second base, shortstop, and the outfield in his Cajun career, hit a .328 as a junior in 2013, a .327 in 2012 as a sophomore, and a .292 as a freshman back in 2011.
