Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team picked up a big Sun Belt Conference win on Saturday, defeating the UALR Trojans, 56-54, in double overtime at the Cajundome.

The win was the first conference win for Louisiana this year, and first in the Garry Brodhead era.

UALR led at half, 27-23, before the Cajuns surged to a 13-point lead in the second half. The Trojans came back however, and tied the game at the end of regulation, 43-43.

The two teams went to a second overtime, after ending the first overtime tied, 47-47, when senior guard Brandi Schambough hit a three-pointer with :27 left, to give Louisiana a 56-54 lead, and the eventual two-point victory.

The Cajuns out-shot the Trojans from the field, 32%-31%, and also finished the game with a 44-43 rebound advantage.

Ashley Benjamin led the way for Louisiana, with 12 points and 16 rebounds, with Schambough adding ten points, while Taylor Gault paced UALR in a losing cause, with 15 points.

With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 7-6 overall, and 1-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, while UALR fell to 10-2 overall, and 3-1 in league play.
