Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team recorded a big Sun Belt Conference road win on Thursday, defeating the UT-Arlington Mavericks, 59-42, in Arlington, Texas.

The triumph gave Louisiana a two-game regular season sweep over UT-Arlington, after defeating the Mavericks, 63-52, back on January 30 in Lafayette.

The victory also snapped Louisiana's four-game losing streak.

Trailing, 14-11, at the end of the first quarter, and then 16-11 at 9:38 mark of the second quarter, the Cajuns went on a 10-0 run, to grab a 21-16 advantage with 5:53 remaining in the half.

UT-Arlington closed to within one point, 23-21, with 3:22 to go in the half, before Louisiana ended the quarter with a 6-1 run, to take a 29-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Cajuns outshot the Mavericks in the first half, 43%/41%, while holding down a slim 17-15 rebound advantage.

Keke Veal and Simone Fields led the way for Louisiana over the first 20 minutes, with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Toma Zaleckaite paced UT-Arlington with 8 points.

The Mavericks got to within one point, 29-27, at the 7:50 mark of the third quarter, before the Cajuns went on a 7-0 run, to open up a nine-point lead.

UL went on to outscore UTA the remainder of the quarter, 9-8, and took a 45-35 lead into the final period.

The Cajuns scored the first three points of the fourth quarter, extended their lead t 18 points, and then cruised to the 17-point win.

Louisiana ended the game outshooting UT-Arlington from the field, 36%/32%, while both teams finished with 38 rebounds.

Fields led the way for the Cajuns, totaling 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Veal added 17 and 9 boards.

In a losing cause for the Mavericks, Zaleckaite finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 17-7, overall, and 10-5 in Sun Belt Conference play, while UT-Arlington dropped to 12-12, and 7-7, respectively.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, when they travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on Texas St.
