Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team recorded a Sun Belt Conference home win on Saturday, defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles, 62-35, at the Cajundome.

With the win, Louisiana completes a two-game series sweep, after defeating Georgia Southern, 69-57, back on January 15, in Statesboro, Georgia.

The Eagles led, 4-2, at the 16:19 mark of the first half, but that would be the last time they would lead, as the Cajuns went on a 14-4 run, taking a 16-6 lead, before eventually taking a 29-20 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Louisiana out-shot Georgia Southern, 44%-36%, while also out-rebounding Georgia Southern, 18-15, over the first 20 minutes.

Keke Veal Gordon the way for the Cajuns in the first half, scoring 10 points, while Patrice Butler and Angel McGowan had 6 points apiece at the break for the Eagles.

Louisiana continued their dominance in the second half, widening their lead to as many as 29 points in the second half, before eventually going on to the 27-point win, their 10th win in their 15 games.

Louisiana out-shot Georgia Southern from the field, 40%-37%, while also finishing with a 38-31 rebound advantage.

Veal led the way for the Cajuns, finishing with 20 points and 4 rebounds, while Kia Wilridge added 12 points and 2 rebounds.

In a losing cause for the Eagles, Butler, McGowan, and Sierra Kirkland finished with six points apiece, with Butler pulling down seven rebounds.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 18-9, overall, and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Georgia Southern, who has now lost 14-consecutive games, dropped to 4-23, overall, and 1-17 in league play.

The Cajuns return to action on Thursday, March 5, when they play host to UALR in Sun Belt Conference play.
