Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team is back in action on Sunday afternoon, when coach Garry Brodhead’s plays host to the Siena Saints in the finals the 2015 Women’s Basketball Invitational.

Louisiana, the second-seed in the WBI’s West Region, has won 14 of their last 21, after defeating Texas-Pan American, 78-56, in an opening round match-up on Thursday, March 19, McNeese St., 63-58, in a second round contest on Saturday, March 21, and Oral Roberts, 65-64, on Thursday night, improving their record to 22-12.

The wins by the Cajuns were their first three postseason victories in program history, have given them 20 or more wins for only the fourth time in program history, and notched Brodhead his 46th career win, the most by a UL coach over a three-year period.

Siena, the three-seed in the East Region, opened play in the WBI with a 53-46 victory over Stony Brook, before defeating Xavier, 69-49, in the quarterfinal round, and Mercer, 65-54, in the semifinals, to improve to 22-12 on the season.

The Cajuns are out-scoring the opposition, 62.7/59.1, while being out-shot by foes from the floor, 42.5%/37.8%, and out-rebounded, 37.3/35.5.

Louisiana is paced by junior guard Keke Veal, who leads the team in scoring, at 14.8 points-per-game, and assists, at 3.4, along with sophomore Jaylin Gordon, who is second on the team in scoring, at 13.5 points a contest.

The Saints are out-scoring the opposition, 62.3/59.6, while out-shooting foes from the floor, 40.0%/39.9%, and holding down a 38.4/31.4 rebound advantage.

Siena is paced by senior guard Tehresa Coles, who is averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds-per-game, and freshman forward guard Margot Hetzke, who is averaging 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds a contest.

This will be the first meeting, all-time, between the two schools.
