UL Women Host UALR In Home Finale – Inside The Numbers

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team is back in action on Thursday, when coach Garry Brodhead’s squad plays host to the UALR Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference affair at the Cajundome.
Tip-off time is scheduled for 5 o’clock, and you can hear all the play-by-play action on ESPN 1420 & espn1420.com, beginning with the pregame show at 4:45 pm.
The game marks the final home game of the year for Louisiana, who is 11-4 in Lafayette this season.
In addition, the contest will be the first game of a women’s/men’s doubleheader, with the UL men taking on UALR about 35 minutes following the completion of the women’s game.
Louisiana, who has won 10 of their last 15, defeated Georgia Southern, 62-35, last Saturday, to improve to 18-9, overall, and 10-8 in league play, while UALR, who beat UT-Arlington, 48-38, last Saturday, is currently 24-4, and 17-2, respectively.
UL is currently in fifth-place in the Sun Belt Conference standings, while UALR leads the way, two games in front of second-place Arkansas St.
The Cajuns are out-scoring the opposition, 61.7/57.9, while being out-shot by foes from the floor, 41.1%/36.1%, and out-rebounded, 38.4/37.2.
Louisiana is paced by sophomore guard Jaylin Gordon, who leads the team in scoring, at 13.8 points-per-game, and junior guard Keke Veal, who is second on the team in scoring, and first in assists, at 13.7 and 3.4, respectively.
The Trojans are out-scoring the opposition, 63.8/49.9, while out-shooting foes from the floor, 43.5%/36.1%, and holding down a 35.2/33.8 rebounding advantage.
UALR is paced senior guard Taylor Gault, who is averaging 14.9 points and 2.9 rebounds-per-game, and junior forward Shanity James, who is averaging 11.6 points and 7.3 rebounds a contest.
The Trojans won the first match-up between the two squads earlier this year, defeating the Cajuns, 67-41, back on December 30 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
